  1. The President of the Senate informed the Senate that the Owmen’s Caucus meeting scheduled for 2nd April 2009 and the Empowerment Workshop that had been scheduled 3-6th April 2009 have been postponed to later dates to be advised.

 

  1. The Minister of Finance, with leave, moved: That the provisions of Standing Order No. 98 regarding stages of bills, be suspended in respect of the Appropriation (2008) (Additional) 2009 Bill, [H.B. 1, 2009].

That this House calls upon  Government to intervene in the operations of Pension funds in order to alleviate the plight of pensioners after retirement.

On the motion of the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Management:  Debate adjourned until tomorrow.

Question again proposed: That this House-

 

CONCERNED WITH the absence of a concrete programme of action and government policy to strategically harness the expertise of Zimbabweans living in the diaspora.

 

FURTHER CONCERNED by the apparent lack of a holistic and systematic campaign to compile a register of all Zimbabweans living in the diaspora.

 

NOTING that Zimbabweans living in the diaspora are capable of positively contributing to the socio-economic as well as political reconstruction of Zimbabwe by the all inclusive government.

 

TAKES this opportunity to call upon all Zimbabweans living in the diaspora to liase with the various diplomatic missions of Zimbabwe in the countries where they are presently residing to enable a register of diasporans to be complied.

 

FURTHER taking this opportunity to express its appreciation for the role that Zimbabweans living in the diaspora have played and continue to play by remitting money and other resources to their families and relatives in Zimbabwe.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, RESOLVES;

 

That this House calls upon the all-inclusive Government to formulate a concrete and strategic policy aimed at tapping and harnessing the expertise and resources of Zimbabweans living in the diaspora as part of the all-inclusive Government’s efforts to resuscitate the country’s economy – Hon. Senator Gutu.

 

On the motion of the Governor for Mashonaland West:  Debate adjourned until tomorrow.
