- The President of the Senate announced the cancellation of Committee meetings until the
7th of May 2007. She also announced that the Bus ferrying the Members of the Portfolio
Committees on Health and Child Welfare, Education Sports and Culture and Foreign Affairs Industry and International Trade, to the Results Based Budget Workshop, to be held from 13th to 15th March at the Kadoma Ranch Motel, would leave Parliament Building at 930 hours on Friday.
- Senator Tawengwa, seconded by Hon. Senator Munotengwa moved: That this House takes note of the Second Report of the Portfolio Committee on Local Government on Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA)’s take over of water and sewerage services in the city of Harare and the proposed take over of these services in cities and towns in the rest of the country (S.C. 3, 2007).

That this House –
CONCERNED with the recent incidents of political violence in different parts of the country;
APPALLED at the wanton destruction of property and the use of children as shields, a tactic that has resulted in injuries to our Police Officers by the Opposition Parties;
NOW, THEREFORE, calls upon this House to condemn in the strongest of terms such barbaric acts and urges government to bring to book all the culprits involved.

NOTING the increasing cost of living, which is affecting access to basic needs;
NOW THIS HOUSE calls upon government to seriously review the social safety nets for the elderly in Zimbabwe – Hon. Senator Goto.

NOTING the poor administration of pensions for state pensioners,
CONCERNED that the pensions are not consistently reviewed to take into account the ever-increasing cost of living and spiralling inflation;
FURTHER CONCERNED that some pensioners are now living in abject poverty as destitutes, with some of their children living on the streets;
NOW THEREFORE calls upon government:
- to decentralise the administration of pensions to provinces so that
pensioners do not have to travel long distances to make inquiries; and
- to review pensions periodically in line with cost of living adjustments – Senator J. Moyo
