The President of the Senate reminded the Senate that there would be half-day ICT Literacy Training sessions for Members of Parliament, at the TelOne Learning Centre, near the Harare Showgrounds in Belvedere, from 17th June to 12nd July 2019. She advised the Senate that training for the second Group would start on Thursday, 20 June 2019 and Senators would register with officers from the Information Technology Department stationed at the Members’ Dining Hall during sittings.

*1.  HON. SEN. TIMVEOS: To ask the Minister of Finance and Economic Development to state whether Chinese businesses operating in the mining sector are paying any royalties to Government and if so, to advise on the total amount paid in 2017.

*2.        HON. SEN. MOHADI: To ask the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural

            Development to update the House on progress made by the Ministry on fencing the  Bulawayo- Beitbridge as a remedial measure to keep away stray animals along the            road.

*3.       HON. SEN. CHIEF CHIKWAKA: To ask the Minister of Primary and Secondary

Education to advise on government’s policy regarding students who dropped out of school due to the fact that their parents could not afford to pay incentives that were required by teachers before the year 2013, resulting in such students being a menace to the communities.

            Hospitality Industry to state measures being taken to safeguard wild animals from              veld fires.

*5.  HON. SEN. CHIMBUDZI: To ask the Minister of Environment, Tourism and  Hospitality Industry to explain measures being taken by the Ministry protect  communities near game reserves from stray wild animals and whether there is any  form of compensation in the event of an attack.

*6.       HON. SEN. CHIMBUDZI: To ask the Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry to explain measures being taken to protect the environment from veld fires during the dry season and whether the Ministry has any plans to educate members of the public on the effects of deforestation or offer any incentives to individuals who do not engage in practices that harm the environment.

*7.        HON. SEN. SHOKO: To ask the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development to state when the Ministry would bring up a bill to ensure both genders are equally represented in all government institutions and agencies as provided in 17 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

HON. CHIMBUDZI: To ask the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development to:

a)      explain the criteria used by the Women’s Bank to disburse loans;

b)      state the number of people who have received the loans to date per province;

c)      state whether women with disabilities have benefitted from the loans;

d)      apprise the House on the performance of the loans and the number of beneficiaries who have paid back to date; and

e)      highlight the measures being taken to deal with defaulters.

HON. SEN. CHIMBUDZI: To ask the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprise Development to state the current number of women with disabilities in the country by age and per province.

HON. SEN. DUBE A: To ask the Minister of Health and Child Care to state when the construction of student nurses’ accommodation at Tsholotsho District Hospital will be completed.

HON. SEN. DUBE A: To ask the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing to advise the House on whether the Government has plans to assist people who were affected by Cyclone Eline in Tsholotsho to rebuild their houses considering that they have been living in make-shift shelter since 2016.

*12.

HON. SEN. CHIMBUDZI: To ask the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing to explain measures being taken to reduce conflicts in relation to boundaries between traditional leaders.

*13.

HON. CHIMBUDZI: To ask the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage to explain measures being taken by the Ministry to meet the surge in demand for passports which is evident in the long queues at the Registrar General’s Office.

*14.

HON. CHIMBUDZI: To ask the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage to explain efforts being made to facilitate gender equality within the Ministry.

*15.

HON. SEN. CHIMBUDZI: To ask the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage to apprise the House on measures being taken to preserve local cultural values and whether the Government is collaborating with other key players such as traditional leaders and the education system in this regard.

Broadcasting Services to explain measures being taken to utilise the media as part of early warning for disasters systems so as to prevent loss of human life.

That this House:

COGNISANT that Section 77 (a) recognises the right of every person to safe, clean and potable water;

DEEPLY CONCERNED by the perennial shortage of clean and portable water in most towns and growth points, which has over the years greatly contributed to an outbreak of waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid;

NOTING that according to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, more than US$50 million was utilised in containing cholera outbreak during the year 2018 alone;

NOW THEREFORE, calls upon Government to urgently allocate foreign currency to local authorities for the development of water infrastructure in towns and growth points and purchasing water treatment chemicals.
