  1. The Deputy President of the Senate reminded the Senate that all Senators were invited to the Annual Pre-Budget Seminar to be held at the ZITF Grounds in Bulawayo, from the 2nd to the 6th of November, 2016. Senators from Harare, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central and Manicaland Provinces were advised that the flight would depart Harare on the 2nd of November, 2016 at 1830 hours and arrive in Bulawayo at 1915 hours and depart Bulawayo on the 6th November, 2016 at 0815 hours and arrive in Harare at 0900 hours. Senators from the rest of the Provinces would drive to and from the venue as indicated before.

  1. The Deputy President of the Senate informed the Senate that all Senators were invited to the commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child and the National

Launch of the ‘He for She Campaign’ to be held on the 27th October, 2016 at the National City Sports Centre starting at 0830 hours. His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe would be the guest of honour.

               Question again proposed:  That this House-

NOTING that the first cluster in ZIMASSET is food security and nutrition and addresses challenges of food insecurity and under nourishment;

 

CONCERNED that despite government efforts to prioritise its programs and projects to address the country’s economic challenges, malnutrition is taking its toll among the urban and rural communities;

FURTHER CONCERNED that children of school going age are the most vulnerable as they easily fall victim to starvation thereby impacting negatively on their ability to effectively comprehend their lessons, a situation which creates nightmares for teachers;

COGNISANT that poor nutrition affects health of individuals and communities and retards economic growth and health standards;

ALARMED by lack of awareness on basic nutrition, even among leaders who do not appreciate the consequences of under nourishment in economic development;

NOW THEREFORE resolves that government provides adequate information to community leaders including members of Parliament on how to reduce incidents of malnutrition among children and adults in the country. -Hon. Sen. D.T. Khumalo.
