  1.  Adjourned debate on the motion on the effects of drought on the national herd in the dry regions of the country (Adjourned 8th June, 2022- Sen. Shumba)

            Question proposed: That:

            COGNISANT of the destructive impact of drought on our national herd in the dry regions of the country;

            CONSCIOUS of the large numbers of cattle that have perished in the past and those likely to face the same fate under similar conditions this year as already evinced by the massive wilting of crops in the dry regions of the country;

            This House strongly urges Government to

  1. Urgently design and implement practical schemes to redeem the national herd from the devastating and destructive effects of drought; and
  2. Urgently comes up with mitigatory measures such as winter cropping and drought relief programmes which will alleviate the impact of drought in all affected areas of the country – Hon. Sen. A. Dube.
  1. Adjourned debate on the motion on policies that address and plug loopholes on tax evasions, illicit financial flows and corruption (Adjourned 8th June, 2022- Sen Chinake)

Question proposed: That this House:

NOTING that Zimbabwe is endowed with various mineral wealth such as gold, diamond, granite, lithium, which are critical for attainment of an upper middle class economy in line with the 2030 vision;

FURTHER NOTING that the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development has a target to achieve a US12 billion mining sector by 2023.

CONCERNED that the mining sector is experiencing serious challenges on issues like tax evasion, illicit financial flows and corruption, which are detrimental to economic development;

            NOW, THEREFORE, this House calls upon Government to craft policies that address and plug loopholes related to tax evasion, illicit financial flows and corruption in the sector thereby promoting transparency and accountability of revenue generated-  Hon Sen. Chinake

Question proposed: That this House,

NOTING with dismay the prevailing drought and restrictive economic conditions which are exacerbated by the deadly Covid 19 pandemic;

CONCERNED at the plight of emerging small and medium scale businesses in the country which are failing to break even;

FURTHER CONCERNED at the rapid disappearance of Zimbabwe’s natural resources countrywide;

ACKNOWLEDGING that our natural resources can transform our country and bring about improved economic production, if well utilized, particularly in rural areas where there is still some wildlife and mineral wealth;

NOW, THEREFORE, urges and recommends the following;

  1. That Government, through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development comes up with measures to resuscitate our economy and rescues small and medium businesses from collapse;
  2. That government gives maximum support and assists in coordinating and implementing the measures taken by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Tourism and Hospitality Industry to preserve our natural resources; and
  3. That Government initiates a nationwide conservation awareness program- Sen. A. Dube

  1. Adjourned debate on motion to introduce deterrent sentences for those engaging in

corrupt activities (Adjourned 8th June, 2022- Hon. Sen. Tongogara)

            Question proposed:  That this House-

MINDFUL that Government established the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) to deal with challenges of corruption in the country,

 

DISTURBED that despite such noble endeavor by Government incidents of corruption continue to proliferate unabated as if to make a mockery of the measures put in place;

NOTING with concern that this scourge needs to be tackled and nipped from the bud before it disturbs our everyday lives as it continues to rear its ugly head among our societies;

CONCERNED that at times even those tasked with the responsibility of preserving our laws and order do end up being caught on the wrong side of the law as they fail to resist the effects of corruption which continues to spread like fire;

Now, therefore this HOUSE,

  1. Calls upon the Executive to introduce deterrent sentences for those engaging in corrupt activities
  2. Calls upon the judiciary to fast track all cases of corruption through special courts that will be established to deal with such nefarious activities- Sen. Tongogara

Implementation and Monitoring to give an update on plans that have been put in place by

Government to resuscitate the District Development Fund Tillage Unit Programme in the

country.
